Kuta on Lombok has nothing to do with Kuta on Bali beyond the name. It sits on the south coast, a string of bays separated by headlands, and it has grown around two things: surf, and the Mandalika development that brought the international street circuit and the five-star resort that came with it.
For anyone planning a Gili trip, Kuta is worth knowing about for a structural reason. The Gilis are in the far north-west of Lombok and the airport is in the south, so the island already puts you within reach of both. And the price floor here is genuinely different: a bed at LoTide Surf Camps starts at US$8, which is a quarter of the cheapest room on any Gili in this list.
The range is the point
Nowhere else on this site runs from US$8 to US$125 within one page. Kuta has surf camps and hostels at the bottom, a solid band of new small hotels between US$25 and US$50 — Lombokhouse Mandalika, Truntum, TIKA — and then the Pullman in the ITDC complex at the top.
The new-build cluster is the interesting part. Three of the seven below opened in 2022 or later, which is the visible edge of the Mandalika build-out and the reason the mid-range here scores as high as it does.
Mandalika and the circuit
Several of the addresses below sit inside or beside the ITDC Mandalika tourism complex. If your dates overlap a race weekend at the street circuit, expect the whole south coast to behave like a different place — and to price like one. Check the calendar before you fix your dates rather than after.
